The Fitting

Axel was just fitted for his Cervical brace. I think his face in the pictures says more than I ever could. Lord.....oh I don't even know what to say Lord.

Studying what's coming out of the bag.

Finding the right size

He wouldn't relax his shoulders so we could get it on him right.

 Finally relaxed his shoulders.

He's trying to push it with his cheek.

Angela felt bad for him. This picture is blurry, but the look he's giving me speaks volumes.

And...that's the end of eye contact for Mom!

Poor guy, he looks so miserable. I hope he adjusts to this new obstacle quickly and you get to see his beautiful smile again soon. Continued prayers and lots more hugs.

I'm so sorry he has to go through this. It must be extra hard with the language barrier and getting bonded with his family. Angela giving him a kiss on the head is the most priceless picture... Axel is blessed to have a loving forever family and modern medicine in a country who thinks he is worth it!!!

poor pumpkin. what a surprise that it is to this point! Our gal/client is 53 with AAI, so far only arthritis. Makes me think we should get her an MRI!!

Oh Leah, I'm so sorry for this. Poor Axel. How long will he have to wear this? all you can do is love him, comfort him and pray for him. This reminds me of when Josh had a hairline fracture in his back and had to wear a full "turtle shell"-type back brace. He was so miserable and I was just sick about it. But he did adjust and he got through the 6 weeks of wearing it. He was about 10 or 11 at the time too. Love & prayers.

As tough as this is for Axel, my heart aches for you. So hard to make your child suffer even if you know it is necessary, for Axel, life saving. For a child with so little language, no way to really explain to him, so much harder for all. Often when adopted SN kids need medical procedures it can wait a bit, for bonding, for language. My thoughts are with you. Such a tough thing for a mom.

Leah,

I cam across this blog yesterday. Their son, also adopted, is in a halo. Perhaps you can get some support, information, hints from them.

I just love his sweet self, just through pictures. I cannot imagine how hard this is for your family.
I know your Mama's heart is aching, but his life really has been saved. Can you imagine how much danger he would be in if you had not adopted him. I hope you did alright with it today.
