Don't

Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the car.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the tree.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't like the sidewalk.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the window.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick your feet.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the refrigerator.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the dog.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the chair leg.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the bedpost.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick MY toothbrush.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the toothpaste tube.
Don't lick your hand.
Don't lick the comb.
For God SAKE please DON'T LICK YOUR HAND when I put soap on it!

What can you give him to lick instead?

We have tried all kinds of things. He also bites his finger tips. (I'll see if I have it on video. He bites and pulls his finger out while he's biting down.) We've given him all kinds of oral motor "toys" and stimulating things, biting toys, etc. and he is very quick to either ditch them behind or under the couch/other furniture or use it for a weapon. Except for chewie tubes. I haven't tried those because I know it's a texture he won't tolerate. He hates vibration, or lots of different kids of touches. If you touch him gently he rubs it away as if it hurt. If you touch him with some pressure (trying to avoid light touch) he shrugs you off. We can squeeze him sometimes, for a couple of seconds, before he laughs and runs away. He is extremely quick to become over stimulated so the laughter become maniacal. We have given him whistles (recorders) that are long and smooth - something he might like to lick - and he really likes to blow on them but he doesn't lick them. I don't think it is as much a sensory thing with him as it is behavior. Licking his hand is just plain a habit. He actually licks his hand then runs his hand up the side of his face into his hair (like to wipe off his hand) which is really fun when we're eating. His sensory needs combined with behaviors with some OCD thrown in there make for one very interesting boy.
